On Friday, Elon Musk stated that the goal of his new artificial intelligence company, xAI, is to “understand the universe.”
In a lengthy Twitter Spaces audio chat that lasted about 90 minutes, Elon Musk shared his vision for xAI for the first time, discussing various topics such as the Earth’s development and the vulnerability of society.
While aiming to understand the mysteries of the universe, Musk humorously quipped that xAI’s mission statement would be “what the hell is really going on?”
Following Musk’s accusation that companies like OpenAI and Google were developing technology without addressing the risks to humanity, he officially announced the establishment of xAI on Wednesday.
Musk expressed his intention for xAI to develop a “good AGI” (artificial general intelligence), presenting it as an alternative to Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI. AGI represents a form of artificial intelligence capable of problem-solving akin to human abilities.
In the Twitter Spaces session, which experienced a delayed start due to the need for Twitter to “tweak the algorithm” and expand the chat’s reach to a wider audience, Musk revealed that xAI would collaborate closely with his other ventures, including Twitter and Tesla.
The company intends to train its AI models using public tweets and may potentially collaborate with Tesla on AI software.
Musk stated that such a partnership would be mutually beneficial and could accelerate Tesla’s advancements in self-driving technology.
In addition, Musk criticized all AI companies, accusing them of training their models with Twitter data in a manner he deemed illegal.
Musk, a proponent of AI regulations, revealed his efforts to arrange meetings with White House officials and stressed the significance of regulating AI during his recent discussions with high-ranking government officials in China.
