Google, on Monday, rebranded its experimental AI tool, Studio Bot, to Gemini in Android Studio as part of its broader initiative to bring together all its AI offerings under one umbrella.
Last year, the AI chatbot was introduced as a resource for Android app developers, aiding in coding tasks and addressing questions regarding Android libraries and functions. Furthermore, the tech company has upgraded the AI chatbot by integrating support for Gemini 1.0 Pro.
Sandhya Mohan, Product Manager at Android Studio, shared the news via a post on the Android Developers Blog.
Explaining that the AI-powered coding assistant can be accessed directly in the integrated development environment (IDE), Mohan said, “It can accelerate your ability to develop high-quality Android apps faster by helping generate code for your app, providing complex code completions, answering your questions, finding relevant resources, adding code comments and more — all without ever having to leave Android Studio.”
Gemini in Android Studio is an AI tool tailored to aid developers in addressing specific queries expressed in natural language, like “What’s the best way to get the location on Android?” and “How do I add camera support to my app using CameraX.” However, its capabilities extend beyond this. The chatbot can also generate code, complete multiple lines of code, provide suggestions, and more.
With the integration of Gemini 1.0 Pro, the chatbot now remembers the context of conversations, enabling developers to ask follow-up questions without reiterating the initial keywords. Additionally, Google emphasizes that privacy is a key focus in the development of this tool.
The tool remains inactive until a user logs in and activates it, and the majority of its features do not necessitate sending any code context. Moreover, users have the flexibility to dictate what information the chatbot accesses when sharing contextual codes.
