Back in May of this year, WhatsApp rolled out a Chat Lock feature, allowing users to secure their chats with fingerprint, facelock, or passcodes. Now, the messaging app, owned by Meta, is apparently trying out an additional secret code feature, offering users even greater control over their locked conversations.
Reportedly, this new feature will enable users to set a personalized password for their secured chat folder. This upcoming security enhancement has been observed in the WhatsApp for Android beta v2.23.21.9, accessible through the Google Play Beta program.
As per information from WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is planning to introduce a feature that allows users to create their own unique password for safeguarding their chat folders.
This secret code feature aims to enhance the security of private conversations. Users will have the option to input their secret code through the app’s search bar to access their locked chats. Notably, this feature will also enable users to lock their chats on companion devices, providing added protection.
This update is anticipated to be introduced through the Google Play Beta program for Android users, specifically in the 2.23.21.9 beta version. Presently, the feature is not accessible to testers, but it is anticipated to be included in a forthcoming app update.
The publication has obtained a sneak peek at the secret code creation feature, providing users with an early look. According to this preview, WhatsApp recommends using a word or a straightforward emoji for convenient access. Additionally, users may have the option to modify or delete the secret code whenever they wish.
